Tour Highlights

Discover the rich heritage and natural beauty of Lough Derg on this carefully curated day tour.

Visit the ancient monastic site of Inis Cealtra (Holy Island) and a guided tour with the caretaker of the island, Ger Madden. We will have access to the interior of the church and hear about the islands history over the centuries. Enjoy the colours and craftsmanship of Gert and Elisabeth Stam’s Caherhurley Nursery where you will have an opportunity to browse or buy from the unique and rare selection of hardy plants on display. Explore the historic twin towns of Killaloe and Ballina and savour a relaxing dinner overlooking the Shannon.

The day concludes with a drive by the poignant graves of the Leinster Men at Portroe before returning to Shinrone.

 

Meet at Shinrone Community Centre Car Park at 8.20, depart 8.30 sharp. Arrive Mountshannon harbour for a 10.30 sailing and tour to Holy Island . On arrival back to the mainland, visit The Iniscealtra Visitor Centre and enjoy a light lunch or picnic (weather permitting and included in price of tour)

Arrive Caherhurley Nursery where we will learn how Gert and Elisabeth Stam started this specialist plant nursery. Opportunity to purchase plants. Arrive Killaloe for a private tour of St. Flannan’s Cathedral and surrounding area.

Dinner in Killaloe (to be decided and at your own expense)  Travelling home via The Graves of the Leinster Men and stunning views of Lough Derg, arrive Shinrone approximately 20.00
